Audio analysis guide

Supported audio formats

Read common compressed, lossless, and recording formats. Whether a file can be decoded ultimately depends on its internal codec and your browser.

MP3

For music, podcasts, voice notes, and everyday sharing.

WAV

Uncompressed PCM audio for editing, mixing, and recording checks.

M4A / AAC

Efficient audio commonly used on mobile and Apple devices.

FLAC / OGG / Opus

For lossless libraries, open audio, and efficient voice files.

How to analyze audio online

No installation, account, or file upload is required.

  1. 01

    Add your audio

Drop in a file or choose one from your device.

  2. 02

    Review waveform and levels

Use peak, RMS, dynamic range, and dominant frequency to understand the recording quickly.

  3. 03

    Find a moment to inspect

Click the waveform to seek; the position line stays in sync with the spectrogram while playing.

  4. 04

    Export a metrics report

Download a JSON report without the source audio for notes or sharing.

Common audio analysis use cases

Podcast and interview checks

Spot clipping, inconsistent levels, steady noise, or problematic takes before publishing.

Music and mix references

Inspect dominant energy, harmonics, and dynamics to inform EQ and mastering decisions.

Video voice-over and courses

Find silence, pops, and noisy sections before moving into the edit timeline.

Teaching and acoustics demos

Show how sound changes over time and frequency with clear visual aids.

Privacy first: your audio is not uploaded

MediaBunny and a Web Worker decode and analyze audio in the current browser. Source files are never sent to MediaKit servers; clearing the file or closing the page releases local object URLs and Worker resources.

FAQ

Audio analyzer FAQ

Are my audio files uploaded?

No. Processing stays in the browser on this device.

Why cannot I open some audio files?

An extension does not guarantee the codec inside a file. Use a current browser, or convert the file to MP3, WAV, or M4A first.

What do the spectrogram colors mean?

Brighter color means more energy at that time and frequency. Low frequencies are at the bottom and high frequencies are at the top.

Which FFT size should I choose?

1024 is faster, 2048 is a good default, and 4096 reveals finer frequency detail at the cost of more analysis time.

Does the exported report include my audio?

No. It contains only the file name, basic properties, and calculated level metrics.
