Audio fade-in and fade-out guide

Supported formats and export choices

Read common MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, and Opus audio files. Browser and codec support determine what can be decoded; download the result as WAV, MP3, M4A, or FLAC.

MP3

For social sharing, phones, and most players.

WAV

Lossless PCM for later editing, mixing, and archiving.

M4A

Efficient AAC for Apple devices and smaller files.

FLAC

Lossless compression for preserving music detail.

How to fade audio online

  1. 01

    Add audio

Drop in a file or choose one from your device. Its waveform is generated in the browser background.

  2. 02

    Set timing

Drag IN/OUT handles, use the sliders, or type seconds. Arrow keys nudge by 0.1 seconds; Shift + arrows change one second.

  3. 03

    Preview and export

Compare original and processed audio, then download WAV, MP3, M4A, or FLAC for your purpose.

Common audio fade use cases

Music intros and endings

Remove abrupt starts and stops for background music, outros, and short-form video.

Podcasts and voice-over

Bring a recording in naturally and make the ending ready for music or the next segment.

Notifications and sound effects

Use short fades to reduce clicks and avoid cutting an effect off harshly.

Video-editing preparation

Prepare music and effects before they enter an editing timeline to avoid repeated work.

Your file never leaves your device

File API, MediaBunny, and a Web Worker analyze, decode, apply gain ramps, and encode the audio locally in your browser. Source files are not uploaded to MediaKit; removing a file or closing the page releases local object URLs, Worker resources, and result memory.

FAQ

Audio fade FAQ

Are audio files uploaded?

No. Reading, waveform analysis, and export all happen in the browser on this device.

Will fading change my original file?

No. Your source file stays unchanged; the tool creates a new downloadable file.

How long should a fade be?

Try 0.1–0.5 seconds for notifications, 0.3–1 second for narration, and 2–5 seconds for music endings. Let the content rhythm and preview guide the choice.

Why cannot fade areas overlap?

Each fade is limited to half the file length so an accidental setting does not reduce the whole track too far.

Which export format should I use?

Choose WAV/FLAC for later editing or archiving, MP3 for broad compatibility, or M4A for good quality in a smaller file.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes. Use a recent browser and keep the page open while a larger file is being processed.
